BMCA trial @ Buildwas 08.03.2020. Report and media by Spanner.
This week saw the return of the BMCA guys and gals to Buildwas for the second trial held there this season, organised and laid out by Clive Parry and Stephen Leyshon this time round.
Despite being in the midst of one of the wettest winters on record, with so many trials cancelled or re-arranged, the off-road centre usually caters for all eventualities and certainly didn’t let us down this week. With a few spots of standing water here and there, the ground was actually pretty dry and firm – to begin with anyway… Right on cue rainfall arrived mid-trial, which spiced things up nicely! Thankfully it was only a short shower, 5 minutes long if that, but the effects were pretty immediate. The dousing of water rapidly reacted with the now polished clay to become sticky but slippery at the same time!

The sections were set out in three groups with one to six at the base of the hill, seven and eight to the left of the ridge and nine an ten next to each other atop the hill. The group at the base of the hill kept things tight and twisty, with some signature deep wheel ruts to contend with on section three. The sections in the second half also made good use of the ruts and banks. The scores turned out well, nobody on clean and clusters of competition throughout each class.

In the expert class, Nathan Jones, Steve Hay and Paul Munslow made up the top three. Jones just snatched the win from Hay; tied on a score of twenty seven lost, it came to down to cleans – with Jones just one the better! Munslow finished on thirty six points lost, just beating Taylor into third by three points.
Intermediate class top spots went to Dave Beddoes, Tony Hill and Mark Strong. Beddoes was on continued good form, taking the win with a creditable score of eighteen. Hill was also on form, finishing on twenty four points. Strong nudged in front of the remaining field to take third place on forty two points lost.

It was close at the top in the clubman class; Collin Billington, Steve Haines and Stephen Leyshon made up the podium with a spread of only six points. Billington brought the very tidily presented bantam to first place on twelve points lost. Cub rider Haines was just three points behind on fifteen points lost and another three behind him was Leyshon on eighteen. Good riding all, very close competition!
It was great to see Les Richardson stretching the Panther’s legs in the rigid class, an impressive score of thirty four too!
John Davies ran his Triumph twin in the gentleman’s class, providing a lovely burbly soundtrack along the way!

Clubman class: 1 COLIN BILLINGTON (BAN) 12, 2 STEVE HAINES (CUB) 15, 3 STEPHEN LEYSHON (BAN) 18.
Rigid class: 1 LES RICHARDSON (PANTHER) 34 .
Gentleman class: 1 JOHN DAVIES (TRIUMPH) 28.
