Variety is the spice of life, it also keeps trials riders entertained! With this in mind, this week’s trial, organised and set out by Joe Owen, included a fair few novelties. The lap of ten sections included some twists on conventional layouts and some new areas employed. Perhaps things were set out slightly on the easier side in anticipation of rainy conditions, yet there was still a good balance and a bit of bite left to keep things interesting.

Dave Beddoes brought his lovely OK supreme out to play, ridden very competently and clocking up a very creditable score given how original the bike is. Hopefully we will see it in action again at Easthope (with a bit of luck and a following wind). It was a great pleasure to see our two gentleman class riders finish with smiles on their faces – great stuff guys!
With no less than five riders out of twelve in the expert class making up the podium, it was another close one: A tie on cleans put Steve Hay, Kevin Taylor and Chris Poel – all three were joint first. Mick Parkes and Gary Hawkins tied on five points lost but Parkes took second place due to most cleans.
Intermediate class saw tight competition too, just three points between the top three riders, Joe Owen Dave Jones and Ian Brittain. Owen led the pack, finishing on eleven points lost with Jones and Brittain close behind tied on fourteen – Jones took second on most cleans. Although if we were giving out prizes for nicest sounding bike, it surely would have gone to Brittain – the silencer blew off his Royal Enfield, leaving it sounding like one of the scrambles machines that once rumbled round the venue!
This week saw another good entry of eleven riders in Clubman class, with a tightly packed scoreboard. John Nyons, Simon Wilmore, Dave Harrison and Colin Billington made up the top spots.. Last week’s class winner Wilmore, put in another strong performance but Nyons pipped him to first place with a tidy score of five points lost vs his six. Harrison and Billington tied on eleven points, cleans and longest clean run, they also both scored two fives and a dab – close or what!
